Robots that welcome tourists at the airport, biometric cameras that can identify people and guarantee security, software for simultaneous linguistic translation, hydrogen-powered vehicles and much more. These are some of the technologies that we will see in action during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will be announced as a futuristic and unique event, in perfect “Made in Japan” style with Panasonic (gold partner of the Games) in the first place. The relationship between sport and technological development is well established in the Land of the Rising Sun and Japan has for years been engaged in the economic and social innovation plan called “Declaration to be the World’s Most Advanced It Nation”, which reveals the objective of making the country the global leader in technology. The plan aims to use technology as an engine for the economic and social growth of the country and, 2020, is the deadline for achieving all the technological advances proposed.
