“SKATEISTAN”: HOW TO OVERCOME THE WAR WITH SPORT IN AFGHANISTAN
“Skateistan: to live and skate Kabul” (Grain Media – UK) is a moving short film - directed by Orlando von Einsiedel - that follows the lives of two young skateboarders from Afghanistan who attend the Skateistan project who will be scheduled in “Sport Movies & Tv 2013” (Milano, 4 – 8 December).
Juxtaposing the harsh reality of life in Kabul with the hopes and ambitions of the country’s children: a touching ray of light from a country only ever in the news for all the unpleasant reasons. Operating against the backdrop of war and bleak prospects, the Skateistan charity project is the world’s first co-educational skateboarding school, where a team of international volunteers work with girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 17.
The short documentary film follows the lives of young skateboarders in Afghanistan. Skateistan is an Afghan non-governmental organization that works with youth from a range of ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds to build trust and to provide empowerment through a combination of skateboarding and educational activities.
